Chogoria Route
Chogoria Route approaches the mountain on the Eastern side. This route contains luxurious vegetation combined with the fact that the final eruption of Mount Kenya occurred on this side of the mountain. This makes it one of the most scenic parts of the entire area.
Day Hike
The day stars by driving up to the park entrance and hiking to Mugi Hill, Lake Ellis and the Gates (Road Head) to experience the magnificent sceneries on the Eastern side of the mountain. After that we descend to the park entrance for pick up.
Two day-trip
Is similar to a one day-trip but includes spending the night at Mt Kenya Meru Bandas. Different excursion can be made to different places from this side.
Longer trips depending on individual needs and interests
The trips offer excursions to the Gates, Lake Ellis, Hall Tarns (Mintos Hut), Lake Michaelson or the Austrian Hut, as well as ascents to Point Lenana.

An example of the best Mt. Kenya traversing trip itineries (Sirimon Route in - Chogoria Route out, 6 Days / 5 Nights)
Day One:
After breakfast we drive north across the equator where there is a monument of sorts on the Equator to Mt. Kenya National Park gate. After signing in we start the 3 hours walk. Initial part of the trail follows a good track through dense forests alive with bird song and the sounds of noisy Columbus monkeys. Elephants also inhabit these parts. We emerge on the edge of the forest where it joins the moor land zone, and reach our campsite Old Moses camp (3000m).
Day Two:
After breakfast the hike starts through the barrow, towards the Likii North Valley, here the moor land offers a gentle climb through fascinating vegetation with a chance of seeing the peaks. Overnight (in tents) at Likii North Valley (3939 meters). The hike will take 3hours.
Day Three:
From Likii North Valley we ascend for the glimpse of the peaks, proceeding to the spectacular view of Mackinders valley, dotted with Lobelias and other beautiful plants with views of the North faces of Nelion and Batian peaks before reaching Shiptons camp (4,200 m). Altitude gain: 26 ki1ometres, Time: 4hours walk.
Day Four:
At pre dawn (3.00am) we ascend to point Lenana (4985meters) taking 3hours and gaining an altitude of 785meters. There we can enjoy the views of the summit sunrise and take photographs, with a chance of seeing Kilimanjaro on a clear day. Afterwards we descend to Halls tarn (4300m) for breakfast, there will be some more fantastic scenery. Overnight will be in tents.
Day Five:
After breakfast we start a 15km hike, taking 6 hours hiking gently down a broad ridge enjoying magnificent views back up the valley to the snowy peaks, and down to waterfall tarns and lava flows in the Gorges Valley itself. Lake Michelson, lake Ellis, the giant billiard table and the mugi hills will be visible at a distance. A picnic lunch will be provided on the way, spending the night at Chogoria Banda's which provides hot showers.
Day Six:
After breakfast we walk for approximately 10km in the rain forest, enjoying the beautiful views. We then connect with our 4x4 vehicles which will connect you to your transfer back to Nairobi, or Safari. End of trip.
